General, School Camps, Dharavi Clinic supported by Ratnakar Bank Ltd.

We are regularly conducting general and school camps in Slums of Mumbai (https://youtu.be/XLS8Y7xhMAU) to provide free treatment for underprivileged. Every year, we are screening approximately 8000 children and 20,000 general populations for visual ailments addition to running charitable eye clinics in Dharavi, Kandivali and Mulund. The fast growing slums of Mumbai are a reflection of urban poverty and inequality. Poverty, over population, ignorance, poor environmental hygiene and lack of healthcare facilities lead to a high degree of morbidity in these areas, including eye diseases. In an effort to provide accessible and affordable eye care services to the slum dwellers, Aditya Jyot Foundation under the auspices of Ratnakar Bank conducts daily OPD in Dharavi.

Pediatric Eye Anomalies, Refractive errors and traumatic Lesions Study (PEARLS)

The Bharat Ratna Late Shri APJ Abdul Kalam PEARLS project was launched on 28th July 2015 in fond remembrance of the man who gave name to this foundation. We will work towards early detection of vision disorders in slum children and strive to prevent avoidable blindness. The aim is to study the demographic profile of children with refractive error and related visual impairment. We will be studying the children of age group 3-15 years in an urban slum population in Mumbai, India. We will also plan intervention and treatment for the children having refractive errors and other eye ailments. It will be a longitudinal study with regular follow ups. The period of the study is from February 2016 to December 2020.

Driver’s camps activity report

Research over the past few decades has addressed the role of vision in driver safety (Motor vehicle collision involvement) and in driver performance. Visual Acuity, visual Field, contrast sensitivity, eye movements and other parameters are considered to be vital in assessing visual function in drivers. The need for work on this issue stems from society’s need to preserve public safety on roadways. Therefore periodic screening of truck driver vision needs to be ensured.

The quality of vision depends on good visual acuity, normal color vision, and absence of night blindness. Our Foundation in association with Sight savers International carried out several screening camps targeted at truck drivers.

Help Researchers Cure Blindness!
Working on disease specific biomedical research to arrive at break through treatments in blinding eye diseases

With our ophthalmic clinical expertise, we can able to translate research to better therapies for human eye conditions. We are working in the field of eye-genetics and also in the process of setting up ophthalmic reading centre for telescreening/teleophthalmology (https://youtu.be/arkkb4LayPo). Through our research projects we are trying to help policymakers to make policies which will help in preventing avoidable blindness.
